A ready-to-teach pricing example
With $1,000 in total cost, a 30% markup gives a $1,300 price and about 23.1% gross margin. A 30% target margin gives about $1,428.57. Applying a 10% discount to that second price leaves about $1,285.71 in revenue, $285.71 in estimated profit and a 22.2% margin.
Ask a learner to predict the discounted margin before changing the controls. Then discuss which costs were included. The exercise teaches the arithmetic; it does not determine an appropriate price for a particular business.
What visitors need to know
Cost inputs stay in the page. They are not added to shared URLs or sent to an app. Hosting may process ordinary request logs.
The app is optional. The calculator works independently. ScopeBid is a separate iPhone and iPad app for quotes and invoices; its first 3 quotes with PDFs are free and optional Pro subscriptions add more.
